SimplifyMedia interferes with iChat Video

When playing music over SimplifyMedia, iChat Video refuses to connect and just craps out.

Any thoughts on this?

Chris,

We haven't heard of a conflict like this before, but it is something we'll test out right away.

Thanks for letting us know.

Chris,

I just tried a quick test with iChat AV. With Simplify Media playing music I was able to start iChat AV and conduct text and audio chats over both the AIM and bonjour protocols.

Our MBP's with their built-in cameras have gone home for the night. Does your failure occur when stating a video conference? If you can send us steps to reproduce, we will experiment more tomorrow.

My response

Here's the setup/situation:

  1. I have a MacBook Air and MacBook Pro
  2. I was logged in to my SimplifyMedia account on both systems (because iTunes sharing wasn't working).
  3. I was using Screen Sharing via iChat to control the MacBook Pro from the MacBook Air.
  4. Essentially I was playing music from my MacBook Air on my MacBook Pro over SimplifyMedia while using Screen Sharing.
  5. I was chatting with someone over AIM using the same iChat application on my MacBook Air.
  6. I tried doing video chat over AIM and it kept stalling out and refusing to connect.
  7. I quit Screen Sharing, but the music kept playing, since the other my MBP was connected via SimplifyMedia.
  8. Finally I quit SimplifyMedia and tried video chat again, and this time it worked.

Hope that's clear enough!

Chris
