Ideas for Alfred.app, a new launcher for OS X:
- Clipboard manager. This might seem like bloat, but I use LaunchBar's clipboard manager ALL THE TIME — this was true with Quicksilver as well. Would it be possible to add a very simple pasteboard tool to Alfred?
- Shelf. One of the things that I've never seen another app to right is the Shelf that Quicksilver had. It was so universally useful — and it's really a bummer that it doesn't exist anymore!
- Actions. I'm sure this one is obvious, but the lack of "tab to"/secondary contextual actions seems like a major omission...
- Calculator. Yeah, this one's simple too, but I'm constantly launching Spotlight or LaunchBar to perform simple arithmetic. If I enter "12+6", I'd like Alfred to report back "18". Added in 0.5.
- Support for HTML/CSS skinning? This would be so cool — and many apps like Bowtie and Growl already use HTML/CSS for skinning. This would make Alfred insanely awesome.
- A built-in link to the system "Character Palette"... or something like "Show Character Map"... another gem that I use frequently to pull in extended characters into my documents.
- the ability to connect my social connections to Alfred so that autocomplete can work against my Twitter, Facebook, Gmail, and other contacts... ;)
- the ability to long-hold a character to submit a command... that is, if I type "mai" and then hold the "i" key, it should automatically launch the first result (presuming that I want to launch "Mail" or "Mailplane".
- I'd like to be able to drag items from Alfred.
- When I launch something from Alfred and then launch it again, it should remember the last thing that was selected... basically this fits into the ability to drag from Alfred, since I might want to drag something out many times...
- Support for Quicklooking selections; especially contacts.
- Typing "~" should show me the folders in my home directory (and someday, let me explore them inline!).
- starting a query with "@" should begin autocompleting against my contacts (from Twitter, Facebook, etc)
- starting a query with "#" should autocomplete against a set of tags — from Twitter, locally, wherever — and then let me perform a search
